To Be Or Not To Be… A Dropout!
Can an artist – or any person for that matter – quietly pretend to ignore what he sees happening all around him and just continue to sing and write silly love songs, even when it’s obvious that some things about the world he lives in are severely wrong? Can he just continue business as usual & pursue his own career & strive to be successful in a System where people are being lied to on a large scale by their own elected leaders? Can one truly claim to be a Christian without being willing to pay the same consequences of being rejected, despised & slandered & even persecuted, as Christ Himself was, for speaking and living the truth? Can you just silently swim along with the trend, current & flow of the majority, even when that trend seems to be on a dangerous downward slope, and something smells very, very fishy? Can a man deny his convictions and compromise for the sake of material gain & still face himself in the mirror every day?
Well, most people obviously don’t mind, many people wouldn’t know what to do about it in the first place, but some people – let’s call them the Dropouts – simply will refuse to let their convictions be choked by the smelly, stale exhaust fumes of a dying culture, they will always fight for dear life to get out of that sinking, stinky valley to head for the highest hills for a breath of clean, fresh air, even if it will mean solitude and the total absence of popularity.
While in the Sixties people like Bob Dylan used to be able to become rich and famous with ballads that were hitting society’s problems head on, it seems that since then, the amount of singing prophets, or of anyone who has something substantial, provoking or even devastating to say in their music, has become increasingly smaller, at least when it comes to music in which a normal human can understand the lyrics uttered by the vocalist.
Dave Mendoza stubbornly insists on being one of those few, even though he’s not all that much of a protest singer, rather one who claims to have found the answer to this world’s problems & woes (yes, including its lying leadership) in the Man Who called Himself the Way, the Truth and the Life nearly 2000 years ago. Even though he found out that if you will truly follow in the footsteps of that Man, Jesus, contrary to one of those popular trends of “Showbuiz Christianity,” you will be anything but popular!
It’s because “Christians” will hate you for being so different, so radical, so unwilling to compromise, and the rest of the world will hate you for being a Christian. The only hope you’ve got is that age old promise, “My sheep hear My voice, and a stranger they will not follow.” And with the lies from the mouths of politicians (yea, even presidents) becoming more and more blatant, and the “reality” the media want to sell us growing ever more bizarre, even some of the “dumbest” sheep are beginning to wake up to the fact that there must be something else, a different kind of plan for us made by our Creator than being a mere “battery” for the machines of the Matrix.
Since the “Machine” doesn’t take kindly to any such loopholes & cracks in their Matrix & plastic facade, you never know how long songs & sites by dropouts will still be available. But as long as you have the chance, “follow the white rabbit!“
